That's a still from All The Real Girls, not Lars and the Real Girl.

Confusing, as they both have Paul Schneider and a scene set in a bowling alley, but I assure you that's from All The Real Girls, a far, far superior film.

in thinking of this title i was contrasting one commandment with the traditional ten--some of which are useful and others
which seem to be rooted in the culture and place where they originated, and hence not that relevant for us. Also, when you see together, in that moment, the rest of it--and i mean all the rest of it--just doesn't seem that important anymore, or at least you can say that the "one and only commandment" is a priori to the rest of it

uhh sorry about the typos: try this instead:

i don’t think that your one commandment will solve our problems, but it’s a start. or maybe we can go even one step more basic and say "learn how to love oneself, then start loving others"

I know exactly how you feel -- though in my case, it's not that friends are leaving (my foreign friends here are basically all fellow lifers) as it is that the things that I liked about Beijing are gradually either being torn down, crowded or priced out, or otherwise muted by a depressing, rapidly thickening layer of what I'm coming to realize is "normalcy." Of a sort, anyway. And then there's the quarter-life crisis factor.

I'm in no hurry to move on, but a few things happened last month -- longish story, and one I'm not eager to get into online just yet, since my online writings may have been at least partly responsible -- that made me start thinking that something really has to change. Beijing won't, or at least not in the way I'd want it to, and so either I change or I move on.
